Bonus Experience (Mechanics)

From The Walkscape Walkthrough

Bonus Experience is an attribute that changes the experience rewarded on action completion.

Bonus Experience Calculation

  1. Each activity has an initial base experience per action for each skill.
  2. Experience percentage bonuses from attributes is calculated.
    • The game only looks at the experience bonuses for equipment that affects the main skill for the activity.
    • These experience bonuses are applied to all skills that are used by the activity.
  3. These bonuses are then added to the base 100% experience that you have for every activity.
  4. The base experience per action is multiplied by the calculated experience multiplier.
  5. Any flat experience given from an attribute is added.
  6. The calculated total experience is then rounded down for display.
    • The game uses decimals for experience in the background with no rounding. You'll never lose or gain experience due to rounding errors..

Example with No Experience Bonuses

If we want to do Soup Kitchen Volunteering with no gear.

  1. We look at the base experience for the activity.
    • Soup Kitchen Volunteering has a base experience value of 24 experience points per action.
  2. We calculate any attribute bonuses (i.e. from equipment).
    • Equipment experience bonuses: We have no equipment that gives experience bonuses. = 0.00 added equipment experience
  3. We add the bonus experience to the base experience value.
    • 1.00 base experience multiplier + 0.00 equipment experience multiplier = 1.00 total experience multiplier
  4. We multiply the base experience per action by the calculated experience multiplier.
    • 24 base experience per action × 1.00 experience multiplier = 24.00 calculated experience per action
  5. We add the bonus flat bonus experience from attributes (i.e. from equipment).
    • We have no equipment that gives flat experience. = +0.0 experience
    • 24.00 experience points per action + 0.0 bonus experience = 24.00 total experience points per action
  6. We round the total experience per action down to the nearest full experience point for display.
    • 24.00 total experience per action rounds down to 24 displayed experience points per action

Example with Percent Experience Bonuses

If we want to do Soup Kitchen Volunteering with a Chef's Hat.

  1. We look at the base experience for the activity.
    • Soup Kitchen Volunteering has a base experience value of 24 experience points per action.
  2. We calculate any attribute bonuses (i.e. from equipment).
    • Equipment experience bonuses: The Chef's Hat gives +6.0% bonus experience = 0.06 added equipment experience
  3. We add the bonus experience to the base experience value.
    • 1.00 base experience multiplier + 0.06 equipment experience multiplier = 1.06 total experience multiplier
  4. We multiply the base experience per action by the calculated experience multiplier.
    • 24 base experience per action × 1.06 experience multiplier = 25.44 calculated experience per action
  5. We add the bonus flat bonus experience from attributes (i.e. from equipment).
    • We have no equipment that gives flat experience. = +0.0 experience
    • 25.44 experience points per action + 0.0 bonus experience = 25.44 total experience points per action
  6. We round the total experience per action down to the nearest full experience point for display.
    • 25.44 total experience per action rounds down to 25 displayed experience points per action

Example with Flat Experience Bonuses

If we want to do Soup Kitchen Volunteering with an item giving flat bonus experience.

    • Soup Kitchen Volunteering has a base experience value of 24 experience points per action.
  2. We calculate any attribute bonuses (i.e. from equipment).
    • Equipment experience bonuses: We have no gear that gives experience bonuses.
    • Our item gives a +2.0 bonus experience.
    • 24.00 experience points per action + 2.0 bonus experience = 26.00 total experience points per action
  6. We round the total experience per action down to the nearest full experience point for display.
    • 26.00 total experience per action rounds down to 26 displayed experience points per action

Example with Experience Bonuses and an Activity with Multiple Skills Requirements

If we want to do Firewood Making with a Lumberjack Shirt.

  1. We look at the base experience for the activity.
    • Firewood Making has a base experience value of:
      • 15 experience points per action for woodcutting
      • 10 experience points per action for agility.
  2. We calculate any attribute bonuses (i.e. from equipment).
    • Equipment experience bonuses: The Lumberjack Shirt gives +6.0% bonus experience when woodcutting = 0.06 added equipment experience
  3. We add the bonus experience to the base experience value.
    • Woodcutting: 1.00 base experience multiplier + 0.06 equipment experience multiplier = 1.06 total experience multiplier
    • Agility: 1.00 base experience multiplier + 0.06 equipment experience multiplier = 1.06 total experience multiplier
  4. We multiply the base experience per action by the calculated experience multiplier.
    • Woodcutting: 15 base experience per action × 1.06 experience multiplier = 15.90 calculated experience per action
    • Agility: 10 base experience per action × 1.06 experience multiplier = 10.60 calculated experience per action
  5. We add the bonus flat bonus experience from attributes (i.e. from equipment).
    • The Lumberjack Shirt gives a +1.0 bonus experience.
      • Woodcutting: 15.90 experience points per action + 1.0 bonus experience = 16.90 total experience points per action
      • Agility: 10.60 experience points per action + 1.0 bonus experience = 11.60 total experience points per action
  6. We round the total experience per action down to the nearest full experience point for display.
    • Woodcutting: 16.90 total experience per action rounds down to 16 displayed woodcutting experience points per action
    • Agility: 10.60 total experience per action rounds down to 10 displayed agility experience points per action

Note: The game tracks the full decimal value for experience so you are not losing the 0.9 from woodcutting or 0.6 from agility in this example.
